Rupert Brooke was a renowned English poet known to be a great blend of charm and literary intellect. He was an all-rounder since childhood, as he was skilled at academics as well as sports and  won a scholarship to complete his graduation. During his college days, he became a prominent figure in the higher English intellectual circles and befriended some great writers like Virginia Woolf. After completing his graduation he traveled for a few years during which he wrote many poems which were collectively published in his first book titled ‘Poems’. He opposed Victorianism and tried promoting realism through his poems, which helped him become a member of the Dymock Poets. This membership helped him befriend some other great poets who collaborated with him to publish a poetry collection titled ‘Georgian Poetry, 1911-1912’. He further went on to write a few articles which were inspired by his trips. This brought him great fame but he decided to serve the country during the First World War. He joined the Navy as a Sub-Lieutenant and traveled to various places but could never face action. During these travels, he wrote his most notable book called ‘1914 & Other Poems’ where he recorded his views about war and its after-effects. He, unfortunately, died due to a mosquito bite at a young age of 27 but was honored with a fellowship from King’s College. I lay and watched the lonely gloom;
And watched the moonlight creep
From wall to basin, round the room.
All night I could not sleep.
