Pocahontas was a Powhatan Native American, known for her alliance with English colonists during their first years in Virginia. Going by a famous historical anecdote, as a little girl she had placed her head on the head of an Englishman, John Smith, at the time of his execution, thus, saving his life. Later, she tied the knot with a colonist and changed her name to Rebecca Rolfe. Her marriage to the colonist helped in pacifying the truculent relations between the colonists and the natives for a length of time.
