Neal Leon Cassady was an important figure of the Beat Generation of the 1950s. He also influenced the psychedelic and counterculture movements of the 1960s. Jack Kerouac bases his character 'Dean Moriarty' from his novel,'On The Road' on him. He later joined Ken Kesey's 'Merry Pranksters' and also took to drugs.
